Where the niles meet 2013
I took these images of Pottery production during the master class workshop with Akinbode Akinbbiyi on 2013.My pottery photos are telling the story of making pottery in one of the oldest and traditional pottery manufactures in Omdurman Sudan. Water and clay identify the Nile and it`s culture in Sudan and how people are connected to the Nile in different ways I enjoyed my project and was amazed by watching and photographing the steps of the production starting from knowing the kinds of clay and ending by pinching and burning it. Naturally-occurring clay exist at the Nile shore (south Omdurman) ,it is called high fire clay . They are not great with bright colors but they are water proof and easly texturized. Low fire clays are brought from Marawi .They are great for bighter detailed decoration, it has to be glazed but it is not water proof. Workers used the potter wheel for symmetrical round objects( small and large objects) They were pinching by hands for small object or used the string making process(coiling) to add pattern or texture. The workers were real artist enjoying their work .
